How to become a Certified Court Reporter in Louisiana
 
The information being provided is a brief explanation of how to become certified in Louisiana.  This information should not be regarded as the full statutes or regulations surrounding certification in the state of Louisiana.

            How to become a certified court reporter in the state of Louisiana?
                       
            1. By taking the Louisiana CCR Examination.

The Louisiana CCR Exam is given twice per year, usually April and August.   Dates are subject to change as necessary.  Go to the News & Events page for announced dates.  

Qualifying Requirements: Applicant must furnish a completed board affidavit from a Louisiana licensed court reporting school that he has passed a qualifying test consisting of five minutes of two-voice Q & A at 225 wpm with 95 percent accuracy within one year prior to application to the board for examination; or participate in an equivalent qualifying test administered by the board on a date designated by the board.  The initial qualifying examination is good for one year from the date of passing.  You must have a high school diploma or equivalency (if a transcript is to be used, it must be sent directly to the LA CSR BOARD office). 

An application fee of $50 shall be paid to the board by the applicant participating in a qualifying test administered by the board.

Examination Requirements: Once you have passed the qualifying test, you will be eligible to sit for the main CCR examination.  The main exam is made up of (A) Written Knowledge -100 multiple choice questions.  (B) Dictated Speed Test - Five minutes of two-voice Q & A at 225 wpm, five minutes of jury charge at 200 wpm, and five minutes of literary at 180 wpm. 

No double deck stenomask machines allowed.  Only stenomask candidates will be allowed to use electronic recording equipment during the CCR examination.

           2.  Reciprocal Application for Certification:

The board will accept as an examination from any reporter domiciled in Louisiana an NCRA-RPR, CM examination or an NVRA examination with the equivalent or current standards of the CCR examination requirement in Louisiana.  Upon proper application, and upon satisfactory proof that applicant has passed such an examination, a certificate shall be issued.
