By taking the Louisiana CCR Examination. The Louisiana CCR Exam is given every April and August. Qualifing Requirements: Applicant must furnish a diploma, official transcript or certificate from a licensed court reporting school that he/she has passed a qualifying test consisting of five minutes of two-voice Q & A at 225 wpm with 95 percent accuracy within one year prior to application to the board for examination; or participate in a equivalent qualifying test administered by the board on a date designated by the board. Must have a high school diploma or equivalency. An application fee of $50 shall be paid to the board by the applicant participating in a qualifying test administered by the board. Proof of passing said qualifying test must accompany the application for examination. Examination Requirements: Once the Qualifier has been passed then you will be elegible to sit for the main examination. The main exam is made up of (A) Written Knowledge -100 multiple choice questions. (B) Dictated Speed Test - Five minutes of two-voice Q & A at 225 wpm, five minutes of jury charge at 200 wpm, and five minutes of literary at 180 wpm. No double deck stenomask machines allowed. Methods by Examination are as follows: A. Stenotype - A stenotype reporter is anyone who uses a stenotype machine and shorthand symbols to produce a verbatim transcript of any oral court proceeding, sworn statement, public hearing, deposition, or related proceeding. B. Stenomask - A stenomask reporter is anyone who uses a stenomask machine, which consists of a microphone enclosed in a mask, to produce a verbatim transcript of any oral court proceeding, sworn statement, public hearing, deposition, or related proceeding. No double deck stenomask machines allowed. C. Penwriter - A penwriter is anyone who uses handwritten shorthand symbols to produce a verbatim transcript of any oral court proceeding, sworn statement, public hearing, deposition, or related proceeding.

The board will accept as an examination from any reporter domiciled in Louisiana an NCRA-RPR, CM examination or an NVRA examination with the equivalent or higher standards than the CCR examination given in January 1983. Upon proper application, and upon satisfactory proof that applicant has passed such an examination, a certificate shall be issued.
